Desktop session is a great feature that KDE has. However, I can only restore the KDE applications, such as Dolphin, System Settings, Kate, etc. The applications I use mostly in my life never get saved to the session, for example, Google Chrome, Intellij IDEA(and all the other Jetbrains IDEs), MySQL Workbench, Typora. None of these apps is saved to the session.
Facts about my system: OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64 Host: MS-7850 1.0 Kernel: 5.8.18-1-MANJARO DE: Plasma 5.20.2 I tried 3 scenarios, and none of them works. 1. Open Chrome and Intellij IDEA, and then reboot. Result: they are not restored sucessfully. 2. Open Chrome and Intellij IDEA, and then logout and log back in. Result: they are not restored sucessfully. 3. With Chrome and Intellij IDEA open, try to save the session from command line:
And then, check the saved file:
Result:
As you can see, there's no line related to Google Chrome and Intellij IDEA. Thank you for reading this post. I appreciate it if you could share anything related to this issue. |

Simply put: the applications you complain about have no Plasma integration (unlike others like e.g. Firefox) and therefore will not autostart.
You can add those to Autostart on login in the System Settings
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
