Need help fixing plasma

Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:09 pm
Greetings, I am using Arch Linux with Plasma 5 and yesterday a failed update caused some corruption and I had to reinstall some packages manually. My current state is a fully working system as far as I can tell except Application Launcher and some icons on the task bar are not showing; I can switch to an alternative Application manager which shows up and works and the second part which I think is the cause of the first is systemsettings5 wont start and crashes. I have reinstalled all plasma packages and dependency's that I can find or think of including systemsettings but am stumped at this point; any ideas on how to go about resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Which update failed what? What did you update? Is this an old(er) arch installation which was not updated for a long time or sth.? What do the logs contain about your issue?

Thank you for your response.

The full system.

No, the last time it was updated was less than a week from the 15th of march (the start of the issue.)
What do the logs contain about your issue?
I don't have the laptop with me to post the logs but in the journalctl logs there were some dbus-deamon[505] error with DisplayManager and bolt as well as a systemd-coredump[16644] about systemsettings5.

I have used
Code: Select all
[user@machine ~]$ sudo pacman -Qo /user/lib/"Example.so"
and
Code: Select all
[user@machine ~]$ sudo pacman -F /user/lib/"Example.so"
to track down packages to the broken library's and using
Code: Select all
[user@machine ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu "ExamplePackage" --overwrite '*'
to correct the journalctl errors and pacman
Code: Select all
ldconfig: File: /usr/lib/"Example.so" is empty, not checked

I have found the corrupted package by running systemsettings5 in the terminal and going through the /usr/lib files in the errors and reinstalling.
