Hi,
for about two months now, I am using an Tuxedo Aura Laptop. I've installed Kubuntu 20.10. The system crashes every few hours, but without any indication of the source of error. I am usually letting it on all day long, but most of the time the PC is just doing nothing. Quite often, when I switch on the external monitor, I will find the system frozen again so I have to turn off the PC. Sometimes it freezes while using Firefox for browsing, but most of the time no program is running, so it must be a system (or hardware?) issue. My last hope is to find some indication in one of the log files, but I don't know where to look? Another option would be an upgrade to Kubuntu 21.04, but I still haven't got an according system message. I only read that there was some delay to an error... I am grateful for any tip where to start to look for the cause of the continuous freezes. Thank you very much in advance! Frank |

Start KSystemLog where you will see all the relevant log files displayed and can search quite easily for crashes.
The upgrade to 21.04 was held back by this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1925010 and should go away any time soon. Make sure you have Discover settings set to alert on normal release upgrades (this is sometimes set to LTS) and enable the "proposed" repository to make sure you get the release notification. You could of course also perform a manual upgrade by doing the above settings in Discover, then run
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Dear Mamarok,
thanks a lot for the fast and precise reply. I will check this log file after the next crash and also set the Discover preferences as proposed. Thank you very much, Frank |
