Hello,
I'm using KDE Plasma installed on Pop!_OS 21.04, with versions KDE: 5.80.0, and QT: 5.15.2. I have Spectacle (version 20.12.3) configured to take screenshots using a keyboard shortcut, saving this image to my Pictures folder, after which this image is displayed as a notification in KDE Plasma. Every time this is done since I installed this operating system, a "kdeinit5 closed unexpectedly" notification pops up immediately after the image notification; pressing "Restart App" for this results in the entire Plasma desktop closing and not restarting, so that starting it from the Terminal or rebooting is required to get it back. When I take the screenshot in Spectacle, or I have Spectacle open so that the screenshot opens in that rather than displaying a notification, the error doesn't occur. The same crash handler backtrace is given each time (I couldn't figure out how to install the KDE debug packages for Pop!_OS):
Running kdeinit5 --replace and replicating the error produces this (the kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW is when I press the screenshot key combination):
Running journalctl /usr/bin/plasmashell -r from the terminal gives one of these for every crash, and nothing else:
Thank you in advance. |

Please send crash reports to https://bugs.kde.org and make sure you have debugging symbols installed to get a meaningful backtrace. The forum is the wrong place for crash reports.
As for how to install debugging symbols in your distribution please check with your distribution, we do not do the packaging.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
