This is a link to what is almost identical to what happened and what is
wrong -

The repair is at the bottom, in that blog,

Got it back.
Had to downgrade pacman back to 5.0.x, remove all pacman 5.1.x
dependencies, flush pkg cache, change to stable mirror, then pacman -Syyuu
--force.
Booted fine, SDDM display now works, successful login, no errors generated,
but not sure if any residual inconsistencies remain.
Also (force) re-installed plasma and plasma-destop just in case any other
undiagnosed zero sized files get replaced.
So far so good, will now try and update to testing again ... :worried:

EDIT :.
All good, but still not totally convinced, had to force update from stable
to testing due to more file conflicts ... time will tell.
At least now I can re-install existing packages, which was failing before."

My screen says:
The current theme cannot be loaded due to the errors below. Please select
another theme.

file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/monochrome/Main.qml:110:9: Type
WallpaperFader unavailable

file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/monochrome/components/WallpaperFader.qml:28:1:module
"org.kde.plasma.private.sessions" is not installed

I used CTRL ALT F3 to get a TTY and can enter stuff, but I know almost
nothing.

How do I fix my problem - the red text,
