I am working with wayland, primarily because of issues with nvidia drivers and an external monitor under X.

I'm getting occasional lockups, which I've reported a bug for. I want to be able to restart the session quickly. I mapped ctrl-alt-bksp to kwin_wayland --replace; however, that doesn't quite do what I want, because some applications (e.g. chrome) are not usable in the new session that runs when I hit that shortcut. What's a better way to bring the session back up? Killing sddm completely would be fine by me, if it will respawn.
