-- Well, I mean, that animations are a nice bling – for people who want them.
Yet for me, this gets into my workflow. I am rather used to hotkeys instead of clicking for quickly changing activities. So the animations are in some way disturbing and causing unnecessary delays. So I'd prefer to turn them off – but how? And is there a way to configure where activity panel appears? Regards

You should find that in System Settings -> Workspace -> Workspace Behavior -> Desktop Effects
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Yeah, I already looked there before, but there's nothing regarding "Activities". And in "Activities" itself there's nothing to configure except name and description. Regards |

Oh but there is, in the section Window Management - Activity Switching

If I get it correctly, you want to get rid of the activity panel altogether and just use keyboard shortcuts to switch activities right? Hmm, I doubt it's possible.

Hm, we're probably talking about something different... I still can't find something dealing with the desktop's "Activity" features – a label for that new bling meaning to replace traditional virtual desktops in Plasma. In my German graphical Plasma config, there is a menu item "Fensterverwaltung ((EN: window management)) > Anwendungsumschalter" (with the two tabs ((EN:)) 'General' + 'Alternative'); which is greyed out for me btw. – The latter "Anwendungsumschalter" rather means 'utility switcher' and has to do with window client navigation, however. What I am looking for is (or would rather be) located under "Verhalten des Arbeitsbereichs > Aktivitäten" ((EN: 'workspace behavior > actvities')). However, there you can so far only add "activities" and define navigation hotkeys for them, and that's it. – Right-clicking the desktop you might add wallpapers, but there's nothing about en/disabling the animation when switching between "activities". So it would be great to know where to find the config files in the filesystem, to have an insight. But feel free to post a screenshot of your specific config menu, if you don't mind. Regards |

Well, you find them under 'hotkeys > activity management' (roughly translated from German). |

I know that. But the question is, what exactly are you trying to disable? Activities or desktop animations? Strictly spoken, there's a difference between virtual desktops and activities. The desktop animations you can disable. The activities not. Your original post quite clearly states "activities". You cannot disable that activity panel ( original post), that "bling" or whatever you wanna call it, nor can you change the position. At least, not that I'm aware of.
If I'm correct, you mean this https://imgur.com/a/vr7RFuX, right?

For what it's worth. There are several widgets available for handling activities. Some simple, others more..advanced. Using those doesn't require a shortcut or an activity panel at all. For example: https://imgur.com/a/z8W8SRr. Simple, quick, no bling..

@dzon:
Yeah, thanks. Yet I am simply a way to disable the animated changing wallpaper during the transition when switching "activities", as I prefer them changing instantly. – So far I looked into any config files, but couldn't find any possible related settings there either. So you might be right: that animation may be hardcoded and can not be changed or disabled. – But if so, I wonder why this shouldn't simply also be a desktop setting controlled by the user. |

Hi!
You can change the animation speed in Workspace Behaviour → General Behavior → Animation Speed to instant. This affects switching Activities too. |

Great, that helped!
