Hello
I am using openSUSE 11.0 and KDE 4.1.3. When I start either dophin or kontact after system boot it takes appr. 2 Minutes!!! for them to show up. All other apps start in milli seconds with no problem. The hardware is fast enough (quad core). I recall that the problem came up after the update to 4.1.3. I have nepomuk and strigi activaed. Is there something I can do ? Thank a lot #bushveld

First, I would recommend disabling Strigi, as no application under KDE 4.1.x can make use of the indexed data, It is just consuming hard drive space. Try removing these files as well. Note that they contain all the settings for Dolphin and Kontact ( but not for the individual applications that make up Kontact )

Thank a lot
the stop of strigi and nepomuk resulted in a good gain of performance. The deletion of the index files freed up 1,5 GB .. So I like the idea of all being index and to work in a semantic context but even after browing a lot of pages I do not see a gain in running strigi at this point in time -bushveld

Glad to hear you managed to resolve your performance issue. Note that you will not be able to tag or star files in Dolphin with Nepomuk disabled ( Strigi is not required ). If you believe this is solved, please add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the thread subject. Thanks.

Hello,
would it be an option to switch only on nepomuk so that tagging is possible. With no use afaik but as an invest in the future? And as a little OT question: is there a place where the new concepts are compiled and explained. Thank a lot -bushveld PS I have added SOLVED since the prob is solved

Yes, you can enable just Nepomuk. System Settings > ( Advanced tab ) > Desktop Search. make sure only "Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop" is ticked. "Enable Strigi File Indexer" should be unticked.
