When I try to lock my desktop session using KDE 4.1.3 running on Mandriva 2009, I get the following error message:
"Will not lock the session, as unlocking would be impossible: no appropriate greeter plugin configured." Is there a way to configure a greeter plugin so I can lock my desktop sessions?

That usually means kdm or a compatible *dm isn't running.

How would I get kdm or a compatible *dm running?

Hmm,
is kdm installed?
and used? Look at the Mandriva Control Center -> Systemstart -> "Configure Display Manager" There you can choose a Display Manager (KDM, GDM, XDM, whatever is installed). Choose KDM if it's not already. Regards, TeaAge

LinuxIsInnovation - Tried the script. Got the same result - "Appropriate greeter plugin not configured."
TeaAge - checked in the Control Center, and KDM is installed and running. However, it is KDM3. Is there a KDM4, and if so, might this solve the problem if I installed it?

Yes, I think it should be KDM 4, the package is only named 'kdm'.
