Hi there,
I've decided to take the plunge and upgrade to KDE 4.1 (packages from Debian experimental). Once I realised I could dispense with the panel it all seemed a lot better! My current problem is that I have hundreds of stored passwords in my KWallet from KDE3 which I'd really like to migrate to KDE4. I don't have KWallet 3.5.10 installed any more. So, my questions (in order of preference for affirmative answers ![]() 1) Can I use the kdewallet.kwl file from KDE3 with KDE4's KWallet. I tried it twice by just copying it to the appropriate location: first time System Settings reported "an error" with the wallet file. Second time, it just seemed to carry on using my new KDE4 kdewallet.kwl file. 2) Can I convert my KDE3 kdewallet.kwl file to the new KDE4 version? Or import it easily? 3) Is there any way to extract the passwords from my KDE3 kdewallet.kwl file? Like a set of KWallet command line tools? I assume that if I re-installed KWallet 3.5.10 I will be able to gain access to my passwords? Any thoughts? Cheers. |

I just deleted the KDE4 file and copied over the KDE3 file and it worked fine; but this was with KDE4.0 - so has that option been broken by further development?

There is an option to merge wallets. So, if you started using the new system, no probs.
Just fish out the kwl file and open kwalletmanager. Open the default wallet and in the File menu, look for the merge wallets option. Enjoy!

Cool, thanks. I must have missed that. As it happens, I've finished my latest fouré into KDE 4 and am happily back in KDE 3.5 for now, after finding that KDE 4 still isn't quite the right environment for my daily work. So I can't test your solution. Cheers.
