Hi,

I am using:
- Kubuntu 8.10
- KDE 4.1.3
- nVidia GeForce 8600 GS
- nVidia driver 177.80
- working "TwinView" configuration

I am searching (for days now) a possibilty to stretch one wallpaper across both displays. They are configured as one big desktop, but I can only assign a wallpaper to one display and another one or the same to the second display.

Is this possible? If not, is this a planned feature for further releases?

Thanks in advance.

For 4.1 is impossible. For 4.2 a plugin could be made but it does not exist yet.

As an alternative you can split your wallpaper with an image editor and assign each piece to each monitor.

I think this is not done because of the complexity it brings, especially if the two monitors have different resolutions. Feel free to correct me if what I said is inaccurate.

[guess]

Since both screens have their own containment (container for widgets), I don't think it's possible at the moment.
I think you'll need either a containment that stretches over both displays, or two containment that are aware of each other; neither very likely.

[/guess]

As always, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hans is mostly correct. Eventually it will be possible to have per-screen containment switching meaning if you did stretch the wallpaper over both the moment you change the containment on one screen you will only have half a wallpaper (Unless of course both containments had the same wallpaper that is...).

The best way that Plasma can implement it is by having two containments that are aware of each other. Having one containment that stretches over both will break things in KWin so we can't have that. :<

Thanks to all of you for your answers.

I will do it as "YeahReally" suggested: split a large wallpaper into 2 pictures and assign each to the according display.
