I know Dolphin is supposed to be the "simple" file manager while konqueror is the more advanced one. I was wondering, though, are there any plans in the works to allow new filemanager plugins to be written for dolphin like they were for konqueror in KDE 3.5? Or is this only going to be allowed for konqueror? I know konqueror's file managing is based on Dolphin, but I am not clear on whether the extensions to that ability that plugins provide will be accepted by Dolphin or not.

Which kind of plugins are you referring to?

Some examples might include a pictureflow plugin, the filesize view that the KDE 3 konqueror had, or a preview view that shows the contents of one file. These are things that may not belong in a simple file manager like dolphin by default, but that more advanced users might want to add.

you're probably running kde4.1.x - 4.2 beta has the file preview (as does Konq), the filesize view is probably kdirstat embedded but does not yet seem to be in kde4 as a standalone app and no idea what pictureflow is
