In kde 3, if I wanted a non-kde app to use the kde print dialog, I just sent it to kprint. Now in 4.1, kprint is missing. So how do I accomplish this?

As far as I know, you can't just yet, because the engine is missing in 4.1. IIRC, 4.2 will ship with a kprinter utility, but you would have to wait until 4.3 before it is full featured.
However, printing works fine through CUPS. Is there any specific need for kprinter?

Nope, it won't.
In KDE3, "kprinter" is a good way to print something applying all the KDE settings and options applied to printing (eg filters, etc). Of course you can use CUPS to print, but there's no "KDE integration".

Hmm, no it won't.... But it will ship with a settings module: http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.2_Feature_Plan
