Hello,

I have noticed an odd glitch -- whenever I have items in my system tray on my panel, they, after some time, turn into transparent sorts of boxes. They still have all the same functionality (e.g. when I click on them, correct thing happen), but they remain in this annoying state. I am running vanilla KDE 4.1.3 on Arch.

Some observations:

  1. If the item needs to be repainted, the square disappears. For instance, when I get a new message in Pidgin, I have set the icon to blink, so it gets repainted and looks fine (until a few minutes later when it becomes transparent again). Also, my keyboard switcher can get repainted by switching it (because the flag changes)
  2. If I turn of compositing, the transparent boxes become solid white. In every other way, the feature persists.

This glitch is coupled with a more general distortion of problems in the system tray. For instance, icons sometimes are drawn with pieces of neighbouring icons around them, sometimes are only half-displayed, etc.

Thanks in advance.

This is fixed (maybe not fully, but fails very rarely) in KDE 4.2. It is a know systray bug.

To fix it you can switch to a VT and back again to the X session.

I have the same issue, also on Arch.

Running 4.2. beta on MEPIS I have found the issue has been almost fixed, as LinuxIsInnovation has indicated. I see a garbled icon every now and then, but it gets repainted fairly quickly.
