Hello

I use openSUSE 11.0 and KDE 4.1.3 and would like to make KDE look like on the live CD (which I assume is the standard). I there a simple way to do this, are there side effects.

Thanks a lot
Michael

The main changes I believe openSUSE do are switch the Plasma theme to Aya ( KDE default is Oxygen ) and change the Window Decoration to Ozone ( KDE default is Oxygen )

Thanks

for the answer, well there seems to be also a transparency implemented with the "taskbar" I am not sure if this is from SUSE. I would like to get rid of the transparency but I did not found out how to.

Thanks again
Michael

Enable Desktop Effects in Personal Settings -> Desktop and set your Desktop theme to oxygen.
Good luck.

Thanks,

I have enabled oxygen but I still have a transparent panel which is not nice since the icons are not transparent.. Also I am not able to get two lines in the panel for application list and the symbols.

Thanks for any hint on how to chance the panel plasmoid (KDE 4.1.3)

Michael

For two lines of application list (task manager), right click on the blank space towards the right side of the KMenu icon and select "Task Manager settings" from the context menu. There, enable "Force row settings" and set the max no of rows to 2.

Is this feature exists in KDE 4.1.3 or just in KDE4.2 beta?

I don't remember what it was in 4.1.3, and if this was introduced for 4.1.85, then I might not know how to force multiple rows in 4.1.x
Maybe after increasing to a specific hight (nearly double the normal), it should automatically switch to a 2 row mode.

I am sorry but I can not get to the shown settings. When I right click I do get setting options for the panel but they are from the plasmoid - are you sure that we look on the same thing?
At lease we mean the same I guess: the panel where the windows symbols are shown ..

Is there an other way to access this menu?

What I understood was the bar where all open windows are shown:

And well, if you open "Task Manager settings" and do not see those options in my screenshot, then they were introduced in KDE 4.2 betas.
You can try increasing the panel width by clicking on the small panel cashew at the extreme right and dragging/resizing using the panel settings bar so appears up/down.

The transparent taskbar could be caused by enabled 3D effects. Disabling them will disable it.

Hello

I thought that too that increasing the hight might double or triple the number of rows but this is not the case. It just results in ugly big icons.

So I my update to the 4.2 beta. I have tried to get an overview which repositories I need for opensuse but this sees to be not a simple task.

Which QT rep do I need? Do I need the unstable or the facrory reps? Then there are KDE:UNSTABLE and KDE4:UNSTABLE rep need I both or just th3 KDE4?

Or is it more recommended to wait for the 27th of Jan. (the official release date)? Which reps would I need at this time?

Sorry these are kind of easy questions, I just did not found an answer and to add everything I can find to my yast repositories and hope that it will work is an approch which I like to avoid.

Thanks a lot
Michael

The repositories that appear applicable are:

KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE
KDE:Qt44

Make sure to set their priority to a value of 10 in YaST, otherwise the Updates repo could cause you strife with KDE / Qt.
