Hi all
Whenever I log into KDE 4.2 Beta 2, my Up arrow key on the keyboard no longer works. However, I CAN get it to work if I go into System Settings, Keyboard & Mouse, Global Keyboard Shortcuts, choose any existing shortcut, change it to a custom Up arrow, click "Reassign" when it comes up with the message "The 'Up' key combination is also used for the standard option "Previous Item in List" that some applications use. Do you really want to use it as a global shortcut as well?", apply settings, change back do "None" for that shortcut, apply again. Then it works for that session, but when I log off and back on again, its gone again. Was working fine in KDE 4.1.2 before I upgraded (using Kubuntu 8.10, upgraded using repos). Thanks Brett

Under both "Standard" and "Global keyboard shortcuts", try setting the key actions to default by clicking the "Defaults" button and click "Apply"

Just tried, no change. Logged off and on and the up arrow key still does nothing until I do the previously mentioned procedure.

After my upgrade to 4.2beta2 in Kubuntu, I found that the up arrow somehow got tied to kscreenshot. When I went into the the shortcut mappings and disabled the "print screen" key, then my up-arrow started working again (maybe I had to log out of KDE first, but I don't remember)

I don't know how they're related, but this fixed it. Had to log off and back on after to get it to work. Thanks heaps!
Brett.

I have added the [SOLVED] tag to the first post so that it appears on the thread title.
