Not sure of the right forum to post this into so bear with me please. I've just moved from OpenSUSE 11.0 to 11.1 with consequential move from KDE 3.5 to 4.1. So what happened to Konqueror, is this the dumb version or is it unfinished? I use the details view all of the time as I find it hard to navigate in icon mode. I used to be able to cut files/folders from one place, open other folder trees and right-click to create a new folder in the currently selected place in the tree to be able to allow me to paste the file/folders in there. Now it seems I have to cut things and actually enter a folder before I can paste them even though there is a paste option in the context menu. So what is that paste option for at that instance and where is the New context menu gone from the tree view???

A whole lot of things are different and lots of functionality seems to have been lost. In fact Konqueror is not that different from Dolphin, seeing as how it appears to have been based upon it.

OK, I can live with this but are there plans to improve Konqueror and, at least, restore all the lost functionally at some time in the near, hopefully, future?

Cheers, Steve

When you are copying or pasting into a folder, you need to right click on the folder you wish to place the files / folders in. At least this works with the "New" context menu item. Paste needs to be treated the same way I believe.

This is under KDE 4.2, so you may need to update to it using the openSUSE build service KDE:KDE4:Factory repository.

It must have been fixed in 4.2 then as I would have seen this and not place this posting. I don't see any 4.2 rpm's in the community repositories for OpenSUSE 11.1 so I guess I'll have to wait till 11.2 sadly :-(

Thanks, Steve

I believe openSUSE is packaging KDE 4.2 ( Currently Beta 2 ), in the KDE:KDE4:Factory repository.

I searched the Web and found a site suggesting to upgrade to the KDE
UNSTABLE repositories so I'm doing that now but will look at Factory.

Thanks,
Steve

Don't use UNSTABLE now. KDE:KDE4:Factory has now 4.1.87 and will get RC1 soon.

Thanks, I have installed KDE:KDE4:Factory now which seems to have resolved some issues I saw. The problem I have now is that Kickoff initially comes up with a menu with icons on a white background but when I mouse over it the backgrounds go transparent in a rather messy way. The only other thing I did was to install the "Glassified" theme as I hated the black (oxygen?) one which seemed to obscure a lot of important stuff in a sort of broken way.

Maybe I have broken it now :-(

It's great that I have the "Create New" option in the context menu when right-clicking on a folder in tree view but there is still no ability to paste files/folders into a folder in tree view sadly :-(

You are correct, please file a bug to this effect in the KDE bug tracker if one does not already exist.
( Regarding not being able to paste into a folder in a tree view, the option is there -> its a bug not wish )
