When I select a jpg it shows the thumbnail in the Information Panel, as well as the file size and modification date, but that's it. I'd really like to see the image dimensions (and even more, really). That panel takes up a lot of vertical real estate. Is there a way to fill it with more info?
I did notice that png files do display image dimensions. Why not jpgs?

You are indeed correct, and it does not do this under 4.2 either. This is likely because the plugin that reads JPG files does not provide this information.
Please search for and then file a feature request if one does not already exist on bugs.kde.org. Please post links back here for this feature request so future searchers can track the issue. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I will do that once the 4.2 RC comes out for Kubuntu.
