What are you guys using for email notification in KDE 4.x? I would have thought by 4.2 RC1 there would actually be a mail notifier plasmoid included, but no such luck. There are a couple of seemingly abandoned projects on kde-look, but nothing seems forthcoming? Or did I miss something?
Mail notification seems like one of the few things I'd actually use a plasmoid for, especially at work where I need to stay on top of incoming mail. Right now I'm using mail-notifier from gnome, but it'd be nice to have some of that plasma goodness in the world of mail notification.

Isn't there a google gadget for that?

I haven't used Google gadgets so far, but from a quick search all I see are gmail gadgets and one that does a few different webmail services. My work email is IMAP4, so that doesn't do it.
If you know of one, please post a link.

If you use gmail you can use gcaldaemon. Anyway, I'm running KDE 4.2 RC1 and there *is* a plasmoid for email notifications ( in fact, for incomming messages!)
Check it out!

Well, I saw the "incoming messages" plasmoid and got hopeful, but other than IM and xchat, it only does kmail, and only if kmail is already running. Kind of limited, and not going to work for my purposes. I guess I was looking at the functionality of kbiff or gnome mail-notification, but in a plasmoid.

We will hopefully get such things once the KDE PIM applications got ported to Akonadi and a Plasma Data engine can get the information from Akonadi rather than from a specific application.
