I have used beta 4.2 for about 6 weeks without problem. It's a big improvement on 4.1.
Since the last nightly update, however, when I try to open a terminal from the menu I get a window:- ========================= Sorry - Plasma Workspace KDEInit could not launch '/opt/kde-nightly/bin/konsole'. ======================================================= If I run /opt/kde-nightly/bin/konsole from the command line a terminal opens without problem. It doesn't seem to cause any problem but I thought someone should be told.

I have been seeing issues such as this also. It usually settles down once the desktop files stop changing, and are cleaned up.

Hi,
Since updating by ubuntu system this morning, my hotkey Ctrl+F12 (to open a Konsole window) now gives me this: Sorry - KDE Daemon KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/konsole'. The first Konsole to open works OK, but all subsequent ones produce this popup. This is driving me crazy! You mention that "this settles down once the desktop files stop changing, and are cleaned up. " Can you tell me what I need to do? Many thanks, |

The desktop files I am referring to are the freedesktop.org *.desktop files provided by KDE, that specify how to launch an application, its icon, etc. These will be fixed by their developers.
You should not be encountering this issue on KDE 4.2.

Hi, Thanks for reply.
Searching these groups does seem to imply this is a very old bug, but it's definitely come back since the 4.2 release of yesterday. I am now on 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid1~ppa2 to ~ppa5 (depending on the specific package) with a pile of updates again this morning
Any way I can track down what's causing the problem, these messages are driving me crazy! Many thanks, |

I think it might be related to D-Bus launching of an application. Try disabling it in the Properties of the application launcher ( Menu Editor offers this feature )
