Run Command Autofill

Wed Jan 28, 2009 10:50 pm
I am using kde 4.1.3 and my run command (Alt-F2) does not seem to work. I can't run a command and it does not automatically fill entries. The similar function on the launcher seems to work fine. Does anyone have any idea how I would track down what is going on??

Thanx,
LES

Try opening the configuration dialog for the Run Command ( KRunner ) dialog ( it is the Wrench )

What Runners are listed? Also which ones are enabled?

If their are none listed, ensure all KDE related packages are fully updated. If that fails, contact your distribution. ( This assumes KDE 4.1.3 was provided by your Distribution )

I am not in front of that machine right now, but there were 10 or so listed and all were checked off. Also, the right click text completion option is set to Automatic. Any other thoughts?

Is your system fully updated? If it isn't there may be incompatibilities which will prevent the Runners from loading.

I had this behavior a few times, but it didn`t happened to me in 4.2 yet, only in 4.1-.
you can try to update your install, and if it doesn`t work, you can reset the kde install ( removing the files on the .kde folder, but be careful, since those folders have a bit more things than just plain kde--data. if you use apps like kmail, don`t remove that folder. )

Rocs developer. (and no, i'm not proud of it) ;D

I'll upgrade to 4.2 today and see if that fixes it.
