Saved Searches - One Click Filters

Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:12 am
Peace!

Is there a way to get easy customized filters in dolphin? Something along the lines of "saved searches" in vista. So you can easily list all the video/text files etc.

You can easily accomplish that using the Find Files/Folders feature but it is not as tightly integrated with the file manager. A nice add-on would be to craft your special "search" there and somehow save in to be used again in dolphin.

Another way would be to integrate "Autofilters" capabilty found in spreadsheet databases. You can create and apply filters on the fly by click directly on the arrows on the respective fields. This solution also scales better i.e easy to craft simple searches with the ability to extend futher if need be.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Assuming you have Nepomuk enabled, with Strigi indexing, then you can use the nepomuksearch:/ KIO slave ( KDE 4.2 ) with a preconstructed query to do this ( by adding links to your places bar )

it`s a nice thing to know, but `nepomuksearch://` is not too big? I mean, a `find:` is faster.
or better, if it doesn`t start with `/`, `~`, or has `://` on the middle, treat it as a search?
is that possible to be implemented or it `s a usability flaw?

Rocs developer. (and no, i'm not proud of it) ;D
