I *think* the new nomenclature for this is 'quickaccess'; whatever, when I click on the 'home'/'house' folder next to the 'K' button lower left of the 'taskbar'/'panel' I get a black pop-up menu with fuzzy/shadowed lists of my folders - just barely readable. Is there a way to change the colors in this to make it usable?

Can you post a screenshot? Also, what version of KDE are you using?

As it happens I can't post a screen shot - in attempting to update to the 1.20 nvidia driver, I managed to screw up the desktop so much it wouldn't load. Re-installs didn't fix it... so I had to wipe the partition clean and re-install (twice) and finally I got back to Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 and the nvidia 1.17 driver, and now the tooltips, folder contents lists and all are good - clear white characters on a black background. Running programs show on the panel with crisp white lettering - most is well. (previously the characters were fuzzy ghosts, just barely readable against the black background).

Now I get transparent checkerboards around plasmoids if I mouse over them, but that's vastly superior over my previous problems.

Thanks for the reply.
