On my KDE 4.2 (and 4.1 as well) Konsole's window decoration looks really odd. It's almost completely transparent, with the title and window buttons being impossible to see. When dragged over other windows, the bar will become almost bright white.
The only other Window that I found so far showing this behaviour is the Desktop Settings (right click on desktop). It's title bar is also way too bright and partially transparent. All other programs have Opaque title bars and look normal. I've been searching for a post or article here and with Google for quite a while, but couldn't find anything that might explain this. Any help appreciated ![]() --Swilver |

Which Window Manager are you using?

I'm not sure where I can find that out, I'm assuming the default one however since I did not change anything (I think that's KWin). I'm running the Plastik theme for Window borders on a Debian system with KDE 4.2 pulled from the experimental branch. I added a screenshot, with correctly working windows on the left and broken ones on the right: Desktop Snapshot --Swilver |

I believe there are some KWin Desktop Effects which could be doing this. Try and experiment by disabling plugins untl you find the culprit.

I turned off all the individual effects under "All Effects", but that didn't help. Only turning of Desktop Effects globally fixed the problem. I also tried all the options in the Advanced Tab (OpenGL / Xrender) and discovered that OpenGL + Fallback mode crashes KWin. Recovering from that was not easy, as I had to hand edit kwinrc to get desktop compositing to work again (the System Settings doesn't allow you to active the desktop effects while simultaneously changing the OpenGL mode... it reverts one of the settings). But that last part is beside the point. It's definitely related to Desktop Effects in someway, although that much was clear since the translucency of the title bar can't come from anything else, but even turning off all the Effect options did not solve the problem. For some reason Konsole and some other applications are special, but I have no idea in why. --Swilver |

I have never encountered this before ( however I usually do not use Desktop Effects )
