Hello All,
Glad to see KDE has these forums now...fantastic to be able to ask questions here. Now to my problem. I'm having a strange issue with my favorite KDE OpenGL screensaver. It's called euphoria. When it's enabled, it shrinks to a quarter of my screen size...the rest of the screen being a light grey color. The really odd thing is, if I select another screensaver, the select euphoria, but don't apply it in the screen savers setting dialog...then hit the test button, it seems to work correctly, covering the full screen. I've tried several of the OpenGL screensavers and some exhibit this behavior and some don't. Any ideas? Thanks |

I have the same problem with that screensaver, but not always. Sometimes it covers the full screen, sometimes it covers just a quarter of it.
I have a nVidia card with the proprietary drivers. What's yours, platoJones?

Thanks Naproxeno...yes, I have the same setup...I've not an nVidia 8800gt with the 188.27 drivers installed. Sounds like that could maybe bet the issue then? [EDIT]BTW, what version of the drivers are you using. This problem may be version specific[/EDIT]

I have an nVidia 7200gs with the 180.22 drivers. I have a feeling that the drivers could be the issue. On another computer I have an ATI card and that screensaver works flawlessly. It would be nice to get more replies from other people to confirm or dismiss it, though.

I can confirm this problem with Arch64 and KDE 4.2. I've got an nVidia 8400M GS with the official nVidia driver (180.22) on a Dell XPS M1330n.
I didn't have the issue with KDE 3.5.9, so I don't think it's a problem with the driver itself. It only happens with OpenGL screensavers as well. There's apparently a bug fix at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165552, but I haven't tried it yet (and frankly I'm not interested in recompiling things, at least not at the moment, which that seems to require). If anybody has a workaround that doesn't involve recompiling, that'd be awesome. EDIT: It strangely just randomly started working. I'm very confused now :-

Thanks for posting that bug...that is the same thing I've noticed...and a good description of the problem with a picture. So, not a driver issue after all. And I did confirm that the problem does not occur when I run KDE 3.5.10 on my system, with the same video drivers. Looks like that patch may be suspect though, since the author says it's not right.
As far as the problem suddenly going away...that seems consistent with what I read about in the bug report. I have seen that it is intermittent. It usually happens on my system, but occasionally doesn't. That would be explained by the random second 'resize' command to the screensaver which seems to be the mechanism that causes this. Sometimes that command happens and sometimes it doesn't. |

The patch posted in that bug doesn't work. The patch's author said as much too unfortunately.
