I'm using Stask now on Kubuntu 8.10, It's useful, and quite stable.

Provides an icon-only taskbar a la windows7. Not complete though. Missing the ability to group or alphabetize open programs. However, it looks like a promising start so far.

Looks promising, but I'll have to wait until (if!) it gets included in Kubutu. because I've never managed to get any KDE stuff to compile on my system. cmake never manages to find FindKDE4Internal.cmake even when I make sure it's in the path cmake says it's searching :-@

I am pretty sure someone has an i386 ubuntu deb link on the kde-look page. I also made an amd_64 deb. I haven't posted it yet though..

Use Ubuntu 10.10 or the new "limiting" Unity desktop. Ubuntu 10.10 can have an icon only taskbar added to the panel with an applet and Unity has it as standard.

Kde is excellent, but improvements are sloooooooooooooooow! :'(

No to mention that default taskbar upon reducing size turns into icons only, you can create small centered panel just with taskbar to create dock-like effect (at least in 4.7 don't remember others).

using KDE 4.7.x, Oneiric Ocelot

Why isn't this option standard yet? It's been desired for three years. I can't compile a plasmoid. It's a waste of time: dragging myself through error messages.
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libSM.so', needed by `lib/libicontaskmanager.so.4.6.0'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [taskmanager/CMakeFiles/icontaskmanager.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

What, the plasmoid (icon tasks) or the "target", etc? I asked Debian IRC if the distribution has the "target" et al error messages above, but I got ignored; so I guess you mean the plasmoid. I don't see it in the repos.

PS It looks like Icon Tasks requires 4.7, so that might be my problem.
