Hi all, can anyone tell me how to get my taskbar back in kubuntu 8.10 kde 4.2 on a laptop hp running 64 bit system. It is the one that has the battery, network and update notifier in it. Thanks to everone in advance I really appreciate all the help I can get also I am still new to kubuntu so please be specific dont assume i know anything.

First of all, open a terminal by pushing Alt-F2 and write "konsole", followed by Return. Then, paste the following command.
You will get a default panel back.

Thank you so much that brought it back can you also tell me if there are manuals that I can download that will teach me how to do this kind of fixes myself or a book that I should buy again thank you.

You can take a look at the Plasma FAQ, which I and others wrote. It covers most of Plasma, that is the desktop shell. Also, make sure to check the tutorial forum out. We have also screencasts there.
