Hi! i know the ram memories are cheap now, but how can we configure kde4.2 to run fine on amd64 (like core2duo) machines with up to 512mb of ram?

The situation is, when i choose to run KDE (installed the last 4.2 following the kubuntu.org instructions), the swap partition starts to be accessed as soon as during the booting time, which situation provides me a very painful slow KDE4 experience.

Otherwise, following some Pinheiro's instructions (that known KDE icons author), i tried to run kwin&plasma&krunner from failsafe terminal, but it's not exactly the same thing, and it's a bit annoying have to run KDE4 always from the failsafe terminal...

Is there something i can do to run KDE4.2 as smoothly as i imagine all KDE developer wished to users try it? like some settings configuration or alike?

And anyway, my suggestion maybe all this configuration being defined by default, avoiding users to have a bad KDE4.2 experience?

thank you all in advance! =)

1. Disable KWin effects:
KMenu -> System Settings -> Desktop and uncheck "Enable desktop effects"

2. To reduce swap usage, reduce "swappiness": http://blog.sayakbanerjee.com/?p=8
