Missing shutdown icons etc

Wed Feb 11, 2009 3:33 am
Hi I just upgraded my wifes laptop from Kubuntu hardy to intrepid (KDE 3.5 to 4.1.3) her user profile has some weird icon behavior! all the shutdown restart icons etc are defaulting to a pc symbol. I removed her .kde in her home folder & that didn't change anything. I created a new user account & it is fine.
Does anyone know where to look to rectify this problem? As she is a student I don't want to mess with her profile too much otherwise I would have deleted her account & copied me user data over.

I just realized the kickoff button is wrong as well, the new user one is correct.

TIA Cary

Try these steps:

Code: Select all
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
rm -rf $KDEHOME/cache-${'hostname'}

If they do not work then ensure that all packages updated successfully.

I tried that but sorry no go! I had issues with the 2nd command so I did
Code: Select all
rm -rf  /home/gloria/.kde/cache-glopad
I also did
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get -f install
to see if there was some residual packages to be installed but it was all good.
It works ok but is a bit ugly.

BTW the hostname of her pc is glopad (mine is stinkpad! thats a IBM thing:shade: )

Thanks Cary

You will need to manually set the icon theme to Oxygen.

The icon settings probably carried over from KDE 3.5, and the icon were most likely set to being the Crystal SVG theme. The crystalsvg theme shipped with kdelibs isn't quite compatible with the KDE4 naming scheme, but KIcon tries to be smart and picks a different icon to display in the place of the ones it can't find.
