Does anyone know how I can disable the flashing of a program in the taskbar, whenever there's a change?
That's really annoying, especially when using Skype in the background and every time I get a new message it flashes in the taskbar and distracts me from getting work done. Thanks |

You can configure this in System Settings -> Desktop section -> Launch feedback.
It's a somewhat strange location to put the taskbar notification settings... |

Thanks, but I think that is something different and was disabled for my setup anyway. I think this setting is only for startup of a program. What I'm looking for is that annoying flashing when the program is already running, but something gets triggered (e.g. a new message received), which leads the taskbar item to flash. |

Wow, this is totally strange. I fall into this topic while I was searching for the complete opposite behaviour. With my KDE4 setup, I have a VERY subtle flashing (something like pale grey over slightly darker grey) for only 1 or 2 seconds. Result : I miss the notification 100% of the time. Where is this configuration setting??! |

That sounds like the default theme of KDE 4.1. Upgrade to 4.2 or change your theme to get nicer notifications. |

Thanks for your answer. I did both, upgraded to 4.2 and downloaded a custom theme. Now colours are ok and notification is clear, but it solves half of my problem. Notification is still flashing for 1 or 2 seconds only. Is there a configuration somewhere for this? In KDE3 the notification was continuous until the user clicks on the window, I would like something like that. |

Anyone? |

Sorry, but it appears that the window items can no longer flash continously even on Trunk. Please file a feature request for Plasma.

I would like to raise this topic again, as no solution was proposed. I like flashing for Skype, but often other programs (usually Java) start flashing the taskbar out of the blue sky. I would like to disable flashing for those programs only. Is it possible?

You may be able to do this through KWin window rules.

How exactly? I looked through all sections there, but I don't see any appropriate option for that.

Hm, it seems that I misinterpreted the naming of some options in there... KWin scripting might be able to help here though.

I don't see any events for that in KWin API. Am I missing something? |

I suggest asking the KWin developers directly, as I don't know if scripting can do it.
