I recently moved my .kde4 folder from my pc to my laptop. the kde version on the pc was 4.1.4 the one on the laptop was 4.2.0 both were kubuntu 8.10. When i started x11 after the copy the kde start up too very long and after login it said default settings loaded. obviously the copy didnt work well so i loaded a backup of the old folder. after this evering worked fine except that all links that open dolphin do so as root. ex: if i click on the "browse c drive" wine link it requests root access, same thing for the quick access plasmid and the trash etc. this also invokes this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165268. how do i fix it

How did you copy the files, as user or as root?
Of you did it as root, the ownership of the files is now assigned to root. So you should change that back to your username. You can do that with the command sudo chown -R username:usergroup /path/to/directory

Try searching for your Old Username throughout the directory you copied, and update the information to your current username.

Did the UID and GID stay the same?

"Did the UID and GID stay the same?"
I dont know what those are, but i dont think the problem has anything to do with permisions, because if i open dolphin with via "dolphin" in alt-f2 it works just fine and i can view and modify home, other partitons, .kde4, etc. |

Can you please post information about the links that require root? This includes if they have been set to run as a specified user, with a certain command, etc.

all links, if i go in dolphin run with "dolphin" in my user name "philipp" to "/home/philipp" and right click>create new>link to location and create a link to any location lets say this one:
and the run the link like this:
i get this:
while if i run:
it works fine I can also run:
browse to /home/philipp/Documents and rename delet or do whatever with phone as expected. the same as above goes for all links no matter where they point, when thay were created, if thay are run with dolphin konqueror or the CLI the uid gid are all correct. this also goes for things like the trash or the quick accses etc. but if i run dolphin (or konqueror or bash, or whatever) and browse there everything works as expected

This is completely normal. This is because *.desktop files are actually specially crafted text files following the XDG specification, meant to increase co-operation and ease deployment between different desktop environements. As such they cannot be executed from Bash or Konsole.

Maybe it needs to be executable.
Open Konsole, change to where the desktop file is located.
If this fails, can you please provide the error message Dolphin gives?
