How to upgrade from KDE 4.1 to 4.2

Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:18 am
I installed KDE 4.1 a few days ago, however when installing a widget yesterday, plasma had a fatal error and the desktop just looks weird (widgets all over the place, task bar doesn't properly load) now, even after a restart.

I'm just wondering would it be easier to upgrade to 4.2 than fix the problem. So what is the easiest way to upgrade to KDE 4.2? I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid.

Thanks in advance.

I worte this but it is german only. However in short:

Stop kdm (do this logged out!)

Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop

Edit sources.list

Code: Select all
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Add:

Upgrade:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

And restart:

Code: Select all
sudo init 6

apt will complain about a missig key, add this one with

Code: Select all
sudo apt-key add foo
