Dear Community,
Info: Gentoo KDE 3.5.9 Using Kiosk Tool I have x2 KDE 3.5.9 desktops on different machines. On machine1 when i move my mouse over a file (on the desktop or in konqueror), any file .pdf, .doc, .txt, i get a preview of the file, so without having to double-click and open the file to view it's contens i can get an idea of what it is about just by hoevering over the file with my mouse, i think this is normal behaviour for KDE. On machine2 i do not have the same effect, nothing happens when i move my mouse over a file (on the desktop or in konqueror), i do not get the little preview rectancle showing me the contents of the file. I make use of the kiosk tool for kde, and i am almost certain that when i was setting up my users profile which is saved in /etc/kde-profile/users/share/config that i disabled this somehow, or, and probably the more likely reason it is not working is because i setup a test user, open kcontrol, switch off all the bells and whistles, configure the kde setup as i like, then copy the ~/.kde folder to /etc/skel/.kde so that whenever a new user is created they receive the configured kde desktop, so i very well may have turned off this preview feature in kcontrol. Now i would prefer not having to use kcontrol to look and possibly turn this feature back on as it will mean that i would have to re-copy the .kde directory into ALL my users ~/home directories once completed which really is not desired. I know there must be a file, either in .kde/ or the kiosk user-profile folder (like kdeglobals), that i can find this setting and turn it on, i imagine it would look something like; ShowPreview=false, but what file would i find it in!? I hope this makes sense and that someone out there has knowledge of editing kde files to configure desktops. Please let me know if you would like me to paste contents of my kdeglobals file or anything else. Many Thanks in advance, Kingmilo |

This setting likely exists in either "konquerorrc" or "kickerrc" or "kdesktoprc"

Try checking for differences between the two machines maybe?
