Hello Everyone,

As anyone would know if they have tried TEENpup 2008 Linux that in Konqueror the "Open With..." option in the menu opens but doesn't give you a choice of Apps to select.

As I am the developer of TEENpup and are getting near to releasing a new improved version, I would like to either fix the problem or at the very least remove the script that gives you that option as it most likely annoys my current TEENpup users. I've looked around the system and haven't found that script.

Note: TEENpup runs alot of KDE Apps in a ICEWM desktop. not the full KDE.

Maybe try running "kbuildsycoca --noincremental"
Is the area where there should be applications just blank? If it is, it sounds like the lack of a *.menu file in /etc/xdg.

Hello bcooksley,
At the moment I have the xdg menu for both jwm and icewm in etc.
So can I create a link to the icewm xdg menu and rename it to what KDE will recognize or do I need to create a whole new menu just for KDE. I are happy to do it, if you could give me some pointers I get started on it straight away.:-)

The answer to your question "Is the area where there should be applications just blank?" is "YES IT IS"

Update: I've been thinking and if I could write a custom menu script just will the most common apps in it, then that would do. It wouldn't need to be linked to any other menu files relating to the ICEWM or JWM.

So the Open With... Box might read
Open with VLC Player
Open with Open Office Writer
Open with KPDF

and so on.

So if someone could give me the basic structure of a menu line for one app, I'll do the rest.

As long as you have a "applications.menu" file in /etc/xdg/menus then KDE, GNOME, etc should function without problems. If you do not then you will probably need to generate one as root ( no idea how to though )

Hello bcooksley,
Thanks for the advice,
I've experimented with creating a menu in etc/xdg and also opt/kde/etc/xdg with no luck.
I feel I will need to create a special Menu for it to work.

Do the folders /opt/kde/share/services and /opt/kde/share/servicetypes both exist?

Hello bcooksley,
It Works! When I reboot the PC the next day the menu was there. It needs work and i'll have to alter the desktop applications files in /usr/share/applications which is linked to /opt/kde/share/applications to get konqueror to list the apps I want it to open.

Just one last question. Now Konqueror lets me choose some settings under Settings>Configure konqueror where in the past this box was blank. My question is which file controls these options? as I need to check it to see why not all nomal options are listed.

Lastly thank you for always answering my posts as your info goes on to help not just me but also those who use TEENpup Linux.

Lastly, Yes both /opt/kde/share/services and /opt/kde/share/servicetype exist.

Thanks Again!:-)

Konqueror stores its configuration in konquerorrc, which is located in $KDEHOME/share/config/
Distributions can preconfigure it by customising it and placing the file in KDE's global configuration directory, the details of which are available from kde3rc in /etc/
