[SOLVED] the fonts in kde 4.2 are very ugly

will try... :) however, the point to note was that with the same listed font (Sans Serif), 2009.0 looks sexy, and 2009.1 looks...gnomey. ;) Not to mention, even the size appears bigger with the same default point 10..

I should change all except Fixed Space to Liberation?

yes, the Fixed Space to leave as it (Monospace) and all the other change to Liberation Sans. If you use Konqueror, you may change to Liberation Sans in the Konqueror settings to see the web page in the same font type

Also in systemsettings in the font settings try the setting "force to 96 DPI"
