HI, I'm using kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 packages installed.
i also made another user to have KDE trunk on it .
everything was ok and i was able to login to both user without any problem. (KDE4.2 user1 && KDE trunk user2)
at a time kwin and plasma crashed and after that i wasn't able to start them, i tried to start them with sudo to see what will be happens !! ;-)
anyway i shuted down x-server .
after that the problem begins! i couldn't login to user2 (trunk) from login screen! and i get this error "Xsession: unable to launch failsafe X session --- x-terminal-emulator not found; aborting." in a dialog with ok button ! :-S
i can login from terminal if i type "startx" but KDE starts up without any audio .

i don't have any problem with another user (user1 - kde 4.2) so there isn't any problem with xorg. :undecided:
i also tried to remove .kde4 but problem still remain :(

The problem is, you ran an application as root inside your user session. This will have changed file ownership and permissions across all sorts of files within your Trunk users home directory. Please login as the affected user at the virtual terminal and run these commands:
Code: Select all
sudo chown $(id -un):$(id -gn) ~/
rm -rf ~/.kde*
rm -f ~/.dmrc

Thank you. I have been fighting problems with kubuntu 9.04 and 9.10
installs for days with x start up problems. This tip seemed to solve my problems.
