I searched this subforum for "image" and "desktop" to see anyone is using an image in the corner of a Destop for easy identification, but came up with zero hits. For this question, I'm not interested in a "decorative" or "esthetic" features, this is strictly practical.

I am using the KDE version that comes with the ASUS EeePC L701, am completely new to Linux and KDE, but after trial-and-error, suspect that it (at least the version in question) can't do this. Comments are appreciated. I'm not adverse to upgrading if that's what is needed.

I am attempting to duplicate this:

The image shows one (of my dozen-or-so) multiple virtual Desktops, as are built-into the Sun Microsystems' StarOffice5.2 suite. The Desktop in the image is my Audio-Visual Desktop with links and files related to online and offline audio and video. To differentiate it from all the others, I use a clip-art image of a small TV set. The image shows the StarOffice Desktop set-up facility, where you select the image file, and position it on the Desktop according to your choosing. Here it is in the lower-right corner. This image is fixed to the AV Desktop, alone. Selecting another Desktop brings up not only the folders and bookmarks particular to that one, but also that Desktop's individual background color and identifying image. You could also use full-desktop images (that's the 'Area' option), but I find a solid color with a small identifying image interferes less with seeing the icons.

I was hoping KDE would allow me to duplicate this, using Linux and more recent software (than StarOffice5.2). Is it possible?

I believe that KDE 3.5 does not support virtual desktops with the sophistication you use. ( assuming you use different Desktop folders with different Backgrounds ). KDE 4.2 does support having different desktop folders with different desktop backgrounds ( it calls them Activities )

I am reading, in KDE virtual Desktops are for applications, and Activities are for Plasma Widgets. Also, that Activities are not yet completely stable.
