have finally taken the plunge and started the process of migrating my desktop from 3.5.10 to kde 4.2.1. an interesting experience to say the least....kde 4 will take some getting used to.

my question is in regards to the "open with" dialog that appears when right clicking on a file within dolphin. i have removed applications kuickshow and kmplayer, however these options still appear in the "open with" list of options

for example if i right click on a *.jpg file i get the options of gwenview and kuickshow, even though kuickshow has been unmerged

and likewise for *.mpg files, kmplayer is listed as an option.

is this a fault of gentoo or kde? and how do i fix this?

also, in kde 4.21, where is the file association option in the system settings menu like in 3.5.10?

i've noticed that when using the "remember application association for this type of file" option it doesnt seem to take hold for subsequent sessions.

File Associations can be edited in System Settings > Advanced > File Associations.
The removed applications might still be lingering in the cache, so try rebuilding it:
Code: Select all
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental

If they persist check the contents of ~/.local/share/applications
