I am evaluating two Linux Operating systems (Dual Boot) at the moment, Linux Mint 6 and OpenSUSE 11.1 both using KDE 4
Amonsst other things I am running a Financial Software Package called KmyMoney Version 0.9...........on both systems. My Region is the UNITED KINGDOM.. In Linux Mint 6 my Ledger Date Format in KmyMoney 0.9 is CORRECT, dd/mm/yyyy. In OpenSUSE 11.1 my Ledger Date Format in KmyMoney 0.9 is INCORRECT yyyy/mm/dd. Both O/S's have been configured correctly to reflect the correct Region, Currency and Date Format in the KDE Configuration Setup which I feel must be virtually identical in BOTH Linux Mint and OpenSUSE operating systems. No matter what I try in OpenSUSE, I cannot get the correct Date Format (dd/mm/yyyy European) to work in KmyMoney 0.9 with KDE 4 Why does the Date Format display so differently in KmyMoney when installed in two "identical" KDE packages but in different operating systems ?? Thanks for any help or suggestions, Ron...

This is probably because openSUSE 11.1 installs KDE 4 by default, instead of KDE 3 which Linux Mint likely installs. KMyMoney is a KDE 3 based application, so therefore reads the wrong settings.
Try running "kcmshell language" and configuring it there. If it cannot be found, try running "sudo zypper install kdebase3" and try again afterwards. NOTE: The second command will install a section of KDE 3, which may take some time to download, and will require the root password

Hi bcooksley and many thanks for your reply.. BOTH the latest version of Linux Mint 6 and openSuse 11.1 run KDE 4. not KDE 3... that's what is so confusing, obviously there is a difference somewhere but being a newbie I've struggled to find it........ I'm reluctant to go back to KDE 3.. as KmyMoney runs fine in Linux Mint on KDE 4. It appears that the KDE configuration "settings" on my openSUSE 11.1 have little or no effect on KmyMoney the program... Should I still try what you suggest ??? Many Thanks, Ron....

What bcooksley said is that kmymoney is a kde3 app, it gets its settings from kde3 not from kde4. So you need to set the date format in the kde3 control centre, it's called kcontrol . (the kde4 control centre is systemsettings).
