Using latest Debian stable release. Also a newbie.
Hi all, I have a quite annoying problem that is hopefully easy to fix: Even though I login as my user created during install, it doesn't seem to have root privileges anymore. Before installing KDE, I could access programs through the program menu just fine, but now every time I want to do something like add a package with KPackage, or edit a system text file, I have to start a shell and type "kdesu program_name" to be able to apply changes. I tried logging in at startup with root, but it tells me "Root Logins are not allowed". How can I fix this? Is there a way to check/modify my user to have these privileges? so I can just point and click. |

This is normal. It is inherently dangerous to be running as root, for a number of reasons, thus logging in as root is usually denied.
There is no way to "add" these privilages, however you can modify the Menu Items using KMenuEdit ( Right click on Menu Icon > Menu Editor ) and add "kdesu" to the start of the "Execute" lines for applications that need root permissions.

Thanks, that will work perfect in the long run! But I found out how to allow root logins. I will use that until I have the system setup.0
