I have searched Google and this forum about the last hour. Either my search criteria is no good or this question is new. I hope you can help.

I'm running KDE 3.5.10 on Debian Lenny. I recently tried to open a file using the right-click option "Open with..." in Konqueror. The file opened okay; however, now the "Open with..." selection window is wider than my screen. The reason is because with the last file I opened using this method, KDE put the entire path in there instead of just the command. (I was opening a *.VSD file with Crossover Office so now the entire path to the *.desktop file is in the list of files to open with.)

There is no file association listed for VSD files; adding it only caused errors when starting Konqueror and Kcontrol and didn't remove the long file path from the menu option. I've tried looking through the various *rc files but am either overlooking it or it's not there.

Is there an easy (or semi-easy) way to remove an entry from the "Open with..." menu? I don't really want to create a new user/profile but it is very big hassle to use that menu feature now. Thanks for help.

Try checking in these locations:
Code: Select all
$KDEHOME/share/applnk/
$HOME/.local/share/applications/

Also try ( at a virtual terminal, with KDE not running ) removing this directory
Code: Select all
~/.local/share/mime

Didn't find the .desktop file there

I don't have that directory.

However, I did find the solution.

1. In Konqueror, right-click on a file and choose "Open with" then "Other..."
2. Before selecting any application to open with, right-click on the address bar under "Open with:".
3. Select "Clear History" from the list of choices.
4. Now select an application (or type in the path) and click "Ok".
NOTE: You must choose an application; if you don't, your only option is to click "Cancel", which will restore the previously deleted history.
