Where are system sounds?

Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:16 pm
I'd like to change the beep I get every time when mail comes in to a system bell or sound but i can not find where the sound file are located or where in KDE 4.2 you can change them.

Where can I do this?

Are you using kmail? Then click on Settings > Configure Notifications.... In that dialog choose the New Mail Arrived item activate the Play a sound checkbox and search a sound file using the file select dialog.

Every notifcation in KDE can be configured that way, either in the appropriate application or via System Settings. See Notifications module in the Look & Feel category.

Cheers, m

I am using Thunderbird. I am trying to use the Thunderbird mechanism under Thunderbird Preferences > General. I do not see a listing for Thunderbird in the Event Soruce in system notifications. It does not really matter to me how I configure it as long as I get rid of my annoying "bios beep" ;-)

Probably here are some thunderbird users, but thunderbird is not part of the KDE desktop, so I think a mozilla forum is a more appropriate place.

The sounds KDE uses are installed under the following location:
$(kde4-config --prefix)/share/sounds/

$(kde4-config --prefix) is unknown on my system.

Could some good man tell me where are the kde system sounds under Debian 11 / plasmashell 5.20.5 ?
>:D

The sound produced by browsers notifications (style piano vibe "A C E") is not in /usr/share/sounds (I listened to all of them)
