Resizing windows too fast and any GTK file dialog causes X to hang (unresponsive).

The topic title pretty much explains it all. However this only happens when compositing is enabled. Any ideas?
AMD Turion X2 dual core. NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G nvidia-drivers 180.37 Gentoo Linux, KDE 4.2.1 I also heard something about the drop shadow effect being horrible unoptimised, could this be part of the issue (for the fast resizing)? I am also using gtk-engines-qt but this happens even without any themeing.
