I am using Kubuntu 8.10 and KDE 4.1.2. The problem I have is that I only want windows showing up on the desktop it was opened on. I thought that unmarking "Traverse windows on all desktops" would do the trick, but it does nothing. I checked the kwinrc file under .kde/share/config and it has a
[TabBox]
TraverseAll=false
Is there another way I can remove the "Traverse windows on all desktops"?

That option is for the Alt+Tab shortcut: if it's unchecked, the switcher will only work for the windows on the current desktop (as opposed to windows on all desktops).

I don't quite understand your problem. If you open Dolphin on desktop 1, does the window show up on all desktops?

Ahh, I solved the problem. The problem was that if I had many windows open then the panel or task manager was swamped, and I wanted only the windows from the current desktop to show up there. I thought that Transverse windows would solve this, and have been trying to figure out what was wrong :-). But now I understand that it is not related. The solution was just to right click on the panel (which I of course should have tried first) and choose Task manager settings and mark "only show tasks from current desktops" :-D.
