disabling kwrited in 4.2.2

Fri Apr 03, 2009 5:07 am
Hello everyone,

After logging into KDE 4.2.2, w -f produces this:

Code: Select all
USER     TTY      FROM              LOGIN@   IDLE   JCPU   PCPU WHAT
me       :0       -                00:21   ?xdm?   2:38   0.02s /bin/sh /usr/bin/startkde
me       pts/0    :0               00:22   47:11   0.00s  0.02s /usr/bin/kwrited

I don't think this was happening in 4.2.1, although it could have slipped under the radar. I'm not sure why kwrited is running at all, let alone under what appears to be another session.

Distro is Arch, and ~/.kde4 is fresh. There don't seem to be any options related to this in System Settings -> Advanced -> Service Manager. I'd like to disable this, I never use it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Go to System Settings » Advanced » Service Manager and uncheck, "KDE Write Daemon", and click stop.

I guess it showed up as "kded4" because that's how it shows up for me (I didn't upgrade yet)

The reason you see it in a separately is probably because it has it's own terminal session that monitors for "write" messages (notice that any time you open a new Konsole you get another entry with w)

Alec,

Thanks for your post, but it doesn't appear that such an entry is in the Service Manager.

I deleted everything in ~/ in a test account, and after starting KDE, there was no kwrited entry in that Service Manager either. It was also running on pts/0 as that test user. Off topic, I also can't prevent that KDE Time Zone Daemon from running.

I'm going to search/post on the Arch forum and see if anything turns up.
