hi

I'm using kde4.2 with kubuntu 8.10 and would like to know how to get file meta informations (for ex for mp3 files : author, name, technical infos ...) in dolphin (in properties menu or in right tab) as we can have with konqueror in kde3 ?

Well, you can get some of it in the information panel but that may not be good enough for you. Another possibility is to use http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

I personally like that one, even though it isn't embedded in the properties dialog or the sidebar. There is a servicemenu for it though.

Thanks but it look like what I'm looking for but it is not, btw it is buggy, it do not return infos about the selected file but about the file which is under the cursor at the moment the menu entry "media info" is selected, which is not the selected file but any other file which is below in the folder display

If this feature is not in dolphin this should be ! Maybe I'll switch back to konqueror by waiting.

Strange. It doesn't behave that way for me. Still, since it's not what you're looking for: could you please elaborate on what it is you require?

Only the fact that some technical useful informations are missing (for ex on mp3: bit rate and so on) and that some file ext do not seems to be taken into account (wav for ex). All those information was here in konqueror / kde3.

In fact that's false, all the useful informations are well detected, but the integration with the desktop is buggy. I use multiple desktops and in one of them I found a ton of mediainfos windows with all the correct informations, those windows do not appears in the desktop where I selected the media info menu but far away... btw some informations appears in the dolphin informations right panel but they do not belong to the selected file but to the one that was under the media information menu entry as I wrote above.
