[SOLVED] KDM Sessions

Sun May 10, 2009 3:12 pm
Hey

I was trying to setup my computer to check out KDE 4.3 . Everything went fine except for making KDE4.3 appear in KDM.

I'm following these steps:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started ... _4_session

This is my KDE4.desktop file:
Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=XSession
Exec=$HOME/kde/bin/startkde
TryExec=$HOME/kde/bin/startkde
Name=KDE4
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=desktop_kdebase-workspace

I've pasted it in both /usr/share/xsessions and /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/sessions

I recently upgraded to Kubuntu 9.04. I'm sure it worked fine in intrepid (although i might have forgotten that i had trouble with it back then)

Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

you might change the $HOME to the explicit path, because KDM will check against its current user's $HOME for that executable, which will not exist, and therefore kde will not populate it in the list of available window managers.

hope that helps.

take care,

Thanks, that helped! Strange that it worked in intrepid though. I didn't erase that partition yet and indeed, it worked with $HOME. Anyway, it works now. Problem solved!

Thanks again
