After my desktop mobo conked out I am using my laptop (IBM T41) both at home and on the road.
At home I've got a 24" monitor with 1900*1200 resolution while on the road I'm limited to 1024*768. Ideally I would like the machine to instantly recognise if there is an external monitor attached, jump to its resolution and disable its own screen. At the mo I've got to do it manually via systemsettings which, although not terrible, is cumbersome. Is there a way of doing this? Many thanks in advance!

You could use the KRandRTray tool which would easy the pain of doing this, and possibly would even activate the external monitor automatically.

That has simplified matters enormously as it is - thank you once again for your help!
