All is the subject !
Using 4.2.3, my previous install (3.5.10) had this functionality. TIA

not sure you can but mediainfo can provide this ability as a service menu
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en fyi - if needed this is the servicemenu provided by Packman for openSuse: (it's named /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/mediainfo-gui.desktop) [Desktop Entry] X-SuSE-translate=true Type=Service Name=mediainfo-gui.desktop Encoding=UTF-8 ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin,audio/*,video/*,image/*,application/x-flash-vi deo Actions=mediainfo-gui X-KDE-Priority=TopLevel [Desktop Action mediainfo-gui] Name=MediaInfo GenericName=Media Analyzer Exec=mediainfo-gui %u Icon=mediainfo

Thank you for answering, Google.
It seems that mediainfo is not available in my distro repository (Fedora 10). But I keep your suggestion as a starting point when I have the time to play with the service menus. I'm still wondering why this feature has disappeared between 3.5 and 4.2. And when I see the preview pane in Dolphin, I suspect that all the necessary components are present. But is it user configurable ?

What about these rpm's http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Fedora Also, you can log into the kde bug tracking system and post a wish list item - if you post there you should make note of the id # here |

For reasons I can't explain here, I'm not allowed to use other repositories.
Unfortunately I must stop spending time on this problem. Thank you very much for your suggestions, I'll keep them for later use.
