Good afternoon,
I recently upgraded my workstation to Debian Lenny with KDE4. When I log on as a user the KDE Desktop Sharing program krfb automatically starts up offering it's invitation. Actually it starts up 2 or 3 times on top of itself and I have to close each invite individually. To stop this I thought I'd uninstall it with synaptic but that will remove all of KDE4 apparently. Any thoughts on how to stop this invitation from automatically opening up when I log in would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.. |

Try opening it after closing the notifications and ensure that it is not set to "Start on Login" in its Configuration. You may also wish to invalidate all existing invitations sent/recieved there also.

Good morning and thanks for the suggestion. I am not getting any notifications, just a Welcome and Invitation window to use the routine. The configure button with that window opens to "Network" and "Security", neither of which offer up a "Start on Login" option. The closest thing to that is under Network choice a the button for "Announce the service on the local network" which I have disabled. As for existing invitations, there are none, never have been any. Any other suggestions will be most appreciated. |

You may want to look up the "Autostart" option in System Settings, in the "Advanced" tab. Try to see if by any chance krfb is listed there.

Good afternoon and thanks for the suggestion. I already did that and it is not listed there or in any of the autostart sub-folders in the home directories. This afternoon a total of 6 invite windows opened up on top of each other when I logged on. Becoming irritating. Is there any way to uninstall it without loosing KDE4? |

After closing the invitation windows, try looking for a "krfb" process in the process list and kill it. Then try logging out and back in again.

bcooksley - Bingo and thank you so very much Sir. Following your suggestion I closed the 6 that piled up on top of each other when I logged in and checked the process list. There were 6 krfb processes running in the list. I killed all and logged out, back in plus just to make sure, restarted the machine and logged in again. A clean desktop now with no annoying invitations. Thanks again, most appreciated. |

Still if you have these problem, check that 'krfb' process is running in background and if it is so, then kill it.
KDE has a feature which will restore all the desktop sessions from the last logged desktop session. |

the other way is to look for krfb icon
By default, most KDE apps sit in the "system tray" when you select close. Check their icons in the system tray/notification area, right click and click on Quit/Close. then left-click and you will see the prompt to close the program. see http://superuser.com/questions/106808/kde-desktop-sharing-auto-opens-every-time for similar problem this fixed my problem to get rid of 2 krfb sessions that kept starting every time I started X |
